Now Taking Pitches for Sci-Fi San Francisco!

San Francisco is the original home of Rick Deckard and the future home of Starfleet Academy. What other sci-fi tales are ready to burst from the San Francisco streets? Sci-Fi San Francisco, the next anthology from Skoda Man Press, will collect short science fiction stories set in San Francisco, as well as stories about science fiction in San Francisco. Alternate histories, alien invasions, optimistic futures, biographies of sci-fi creators, and weird architecture are all welcome!

Here are the details:

  • Payment will be $35/page for print and digital publication rights. This is not a work for hire, and you'll retain ownership of your piece.
  • Previously published comics are A-OK. Just let me know where they have been published before so I can mention it in the notes.
  • The deadline for pitches (with page counts) is December 1st, 2012. The deadline for finished pages is April 1st, 2013.
  •  Stories should be one page minimum and 10 pages maximum. Pages should be standard American comic book size (17x26 cm or 6.625″x 10.25″) and in black and white.
  • All stories should be set in San Francisco and somehow related to science fiction.

"The Comic Book Guide to the Mission" goes to WonderCon

The Comic Book Guide the Mission is making its convention debut! We'll be at WonderCon all weekend, hanging out at the Skoda Man Press table (D18) with copies of The Comic Book Guide to the Mission, as well as additional comics from Sean Chiki, Roman Muradov, Jamaica Dyer, and Geoff Vasile, as well as Matt Stewart's novel The French Revolution. Plus, expect signings with Dyer, Muradov, Mario Hernandez, Dan V., Jeff Walker -- and more!

Not enough Mission Comics artists for you? Cover artist Chuck Whelon will be wielding his mighty pen over in Artist's Alley (AA-089). Visit Jonas Madden-Connor at the Family Style table (SP-19) and Justin Hall at Prism Comics (319). Plus, Shaenon Garrity, Andrew Farago, and Chuck Whelon will all be revolutionizing your comics consumption at Sunday's webcomics panel (2:30-3:30). So stop by, say hello, eat our candy, and maybe come away with some comics!

And don't forget, Mission: Comics and Art is hosting the reception for The Comic Book Guide to the Mission Art Show Saturday night! See original pieces from the book, and patronize the Mission's amazing combination comic book shop and art gallery!

Tonight: Mike White launches "Amity Blamity" at Mission: Comics and Art!

If you loved the wisecracking characters from Mike White's closing piece "Amity Blamity Presents: The Mission," you're in luck! Gretchen, Chester, and Uncle Downey all star in Mike White's full-length graphic novel, Amity Blamity, Book One. The trio of girl, man child, and potbellied pig live together on a quiet farm that becomes not-so-quiet when strange critters start invading from the forest. It's a family-friendly tale of talking animals, moonshine, and genetic mutation.

If you're in San Francisco, head down to Mission: Comics and Art (3520 20th St. in the Mission) for the Amity Blamity book release and signing. It's the perfect precursor to WonderCon!
